Welcome Margaret Hope

Margarat Hope Thuma was born (finally ;-) on Monday! We received a text Tuesday morning with the news! She was born at 5:21p.m. weighing in at 7lbs 6.5 ozs. and measuring 21 inches long. Not bad for being some 18 days late!

Congratulations Katherine and Ben, your bundle of joy has arrived!

Reminded of a onesie that Hilary and Tom sent me, I am sure you will all agree, no matter how difficult, she was "worth the wait".

Don't forget you can check on Baby Thuma's progress by clicking on her link over to the right in "our favorite places to visit".

Congrats Aunt Haley!!

Congratulations Aunt Haley!!! You did it! We are very proud of Aunt Haley, she survived Dover High School and is soon off to join the big leagues at Virgina Tech. As an excellent student and a competitive swimmer, she is truly commendable. She starts at Tech in the fall as a member of their very selective Architecture Program and their swim team.

We are very proud of you, Aunt Haley! Go Hokies!

Roll in One!

Nesting is also a new activity. I have been obsessed with putting little things in big things for a few weeks now. Now, before you go envisioning those cute little toys that teach children to put the star in the star shaped hole and the triangle in the triangular hole, let me share the reality of this with you:

Well, I guess the roll is sort of round...and the toilet is round...progress? Probably not. No, the reality of nesting, at least in our house, looks more like: toilet paper in the toilet, pacifiers in the dog bowl, cell phone in the trash, stuffed animals in the bath tub, you get the idea.
But, for what it's worth, check out that spiral on the paper before it entered the toilet...future quarterback perhaps? Or maybe a heck of a curve ball for a pitcher? Maybe by 2020 (frightening) there will be girls football?? You never know...

1 Year Update

I think we missed both my 11 month and 12 month updates, you we're going to bring you up to speed of what is happening in my world...

First of all, I am sure you've gathered from the posts/pics, that I am a walking machine! As a matter of fact, I hardly walk anymore, I run. I almost never get on all fours and am loving being a biped.

I am up to four (almost six, but not quite) teeth, two on top, two on the bottom, and apparently they only come two at a time. I am finally able to chew my food not just gum it. Speaking of food, I really prefer finger food at this point, and if you are going to feed me with a spoon, good luck because although I don't have the coordination to do it myself, I do have the willpower, so beware.

Marshmallows and mandarin oranges are by far my favorites. A tough diet for a Miller -whose best friend is Mulligan- who refuses to believe that /m/ is a consonant worth using. That being said, obviously my mom has yet to hear "ma-ma" but does patiently listen to "da-da" all day long. I also have yet to say my first word but will talk your ear off in a heartbeat.

Most of my days are unfortunately consumed with construction stuff, but I usually get an hour or so a few times a week at the gym day care- which I LOVE! I really enjoy being around other children and, considering I am an only child, do quite well playing with others. On the weekends we go to the pool or the beach and I continue to love the water more than anything else. Baths have become a bit cumbersome so I have graduated to showers.

I am about as huggable and kissable as they come but don't try and hold me down for too long because I get busier every day. I am a sweet, happy child but I know what and I will get frustrated if you can't read my mind. Is that so much to ask? I don't think so, do you?

Happy Mother's Day- Belated

Sorry this post is so late, and we could have back dated it, but we wanted to give credit where credit is due. Daddy planned a superb First Mother's Day for us!! Mom said it was much better than last year (I don't know why Mom was so anxious for me on Mother's Day last year, we wouldn't have had nearly as much fun!?!).

First of all, it was all a surprise, and I'll be honest, mommy isn't the easiest person to surprise. So, Sunday morning we got in the car knowing only "Blayne will need a change of clothes" and "We could be gone all day so bring what you'll need". We ventured off toward Houston and ended up at the zoo! Mom has been dying to take me here but with our day job is just hadn't materialized until then. It was perfect- we saw all the animals and played in the petting zoo and the parks and had a wonderful morning. Later we drove to Rice Village and ate a sushi/brewery lunch on the patio overlooking the sights of the big city. It couldn't have been better. Our only regret is that despite taking a newly charged camera battery, it somehow went dead and we didn't get but a few pictures.

Since mommy and daddy don't really celebrate birthdays and don't exchange Christmas gifts with each other, we decided Mother's and Father's days should be our "big" celebration holidays where they do or get something extravagant for each other. So, in addition to the zoo, daddy got mommy some help keeping up with the cleaning twice a week. She and I have been working 12 hour days in the construction business so this will be a HUGE help for her. I do enjoy pushing the swiffer around but I'm not much good at putting things away, so I am glad someone else will be here to pull up the slack.

Thanks again Daddy for a wonderful day- we have big shoes to fill come June 15th. We'll see what we can dream up...

Shout Out to Aunt Katherine!

As we're reminiscing the arrival of young Blayne, we would like to send out a shout out to Aunt Katherine who is quickly approaching our 12 days overdue . We don't know too many women who have had to wait quite so long to meet their babies, not to mention to know the sex of those babies, so we just wanted to let her and Ben know we're thinking about them.

Check them out at: http://kthuma.blogspot.com/ or the Baby Thuma Link to the side.

Let's all give her a quick thought/prayer/etc. and maybe, just maybe, we can coax young Thuma into this world! Come on baby Thuma, we're all waiting for you!

Do I hear round 3?

Oh yes...one more round, and this time we did it Clear Lake Shores style: sun, pool, food and mimosas (but not for the kids, not even the birthday girl). I know I am only one, but Mom and Dad worked hard on planning a great first birthday for me, I mean how many times do you turn 1? Of course, you could use this argument with any number...and I plan to ;-)

We celebrated like true Texicans with a tres leches cake. Note to self: Do not put an iced cake under the table (no, not even if you're trying to keep it out of the sun) when you have a toddler...

Here I am eatin' a little cake with Daddy (yes, this time it was after the cake was actually served) and opening some gifts.

Seriously, who wrapped the cheerios? Not funny.
